The weekly troop meeting is akin to the practices for sports/band/dance, etc. The meeting is where skills are practiced, plans are made, adult leaders check in on the progress of the youth, and information is disseminated. An effective meeting engages scouts in worthwhile activities and feels distinct from other instructional environments like school. They should be youth planned and youth led with adult support. These effective meetings don’t occur without planning, which is done primarily by the Patrol Leaders Council at their monthly meetings, in coordination with the Scoutmaster and assistants, and refined through regular check-ins between the Senior Patrol Leader and the Scoutmaster.
This section of Troop Leader Resources provides troop leaders with links to useful materials that ensure the planning of successful meetings. Tailor these resources to your needs, add a bit of creativity, and you have the recipe for a dynamic troop with an awesome Scouting program!
